Prof Yi CHEN

Prof. CHEN Yi is a full professor at College of Architecture & Urban Planning in Tongji University，First Class Registered Architect of the P. R. China, visiting professor at Pavia University in Italy, vice director of Interior & Exterior Environmental Design Committee of Architectural Society of Shanghai. Prof. Chen holds bachelor, master and Ph.D. degrees in architecture from Tongji University, and has also pursued research work in The University of British Columbia, Canada, and in the Ecole d’Architecture de Versailles, France, as a visiting scholar.

Dr. Chen was named an Excellent Young Teacher in Shanghai’s Colleges and Universities in 1999. He has also won the Prize for the Excellent Young Teacher in China’s Colleges and Universities by the Fok Ying Tung Education Foundation, and received the support of the Shanghai QIMINGXING Project for Young Scientific and Technical Research Personnel (00QG14048).

College of Architecture & Urban Planning ( CAUP ) of Tongji University has four departments ( Dept. of Architecture, Dept. of Urban Planning, Dept. of Landscape Study & Dept. of Art Design ) with 6 undergraduate programs, 6 postgraduate programs and 5 doctoral programs. As an influential educational institution in China, CAUP has undertaken large numbers of national and local key researches, and has produced generations of talents in the fields of construction.

Prof. Chen’s recent research focuses on ecological architectural design and ecological urban design, he has published several books and papers on this research area, such as “The Design of Ecological Residential Communities”, “The Theory of Sustainable Development in Urban Settlements”, etc.

Prof. Chen has undertaken several important research programs, such as :The Research on Ecologization of Infrastructure in Dongtan Area of Chongming Island ( supported by Shanghai Science & Technology Committee, Shanghai Industrial Investment (Holdings) Co., Ltd. ) , Research on Sustainable Development Theory and Ecological Residential Community ( supported by Shanghai Science & Technology Committee ) , Research on Ecological Residential Community in Shanghai Pudong New Area ( supported by Science & Technology Committee of Shanghai Pudong New Area ), etc.

Prof. Chen has participated key research programs on Shanghai EXPO 2010, such as : Research on Planning and Design Principles for Site and Buildings for EXPO 2010 ( supported by Ministry of Science & Technology, Shanghai Science & Technology Committee ) , Research on Guidelines of Planning and Design for EXPO 2010 ( supported by Shanghai Science & Technology Committee ),etc.

Anticipated results are as follows:
1. Ideal living model of Chinese traditional city.
2. Eco-design or planning thoughts in world traditional cities
3.Eco-design or planning principles in today’s Multi-scale Spatial Masterplanning
