Professor Kecheng LIU

Kecheng Liu mainly devotes his all efforts to the research of cultural heritage conservation in Xi’an. As the chief architect, he made the preservation planning from city scale to national cultural heritage park, historical block and historical buildings, and designed some important museums in Xi’an. The most representative one was Museum of Hanyangling which has important role in preservation of cultural heritage around China.

Xi’an, the former capital city of China, was one of the famous historical city in the world, and also the beginning of the Silk Road. It became an international city Since Han dynasty (BC.200).in that time people came from Europe and Middle East Asia alone the Silk Road to Xi’an. There was rich cultural heritage in Xi’an both on the ground and underground. And now Xian was faced great challenge in the conservation of culture heritage in this globalization time. SA-XAUAT was working with local government in this field for long time and now we want to co-operate with the experts from British who was interested in conservation of historical city. It is a chance for us to contribute together in conservation of human heritage.

ASC: Architectural Society of China (ASC) founded in 1953, is an independent body approved and registered by the Ministry of Civil Affairs, also the member of China Association for Science and Technology (CAST). The fundamental objectives of the ASC are: to carry out the policy of “letting a hundred flowers blossom and a hundred schools of thought contend”, to popularize various academic activities, to edit and publish periodicals in the academic and technological fields, to make consultations for important scientific and technological issues and projects, to evaluate and appraise and to organize international academic exchanges, symposia and study trips in order to enhance the prosperity of architectural creation and scientific and technological progress.

SA-XAUAT: School of Architecture of Xi'an University of Architecture and Technology which has 186 professors and staffs and over 1500 students study architecture, urban planning and landscape architecture for BD, MD and PHD was founded in Xi’an at the time of 1927. In the year of 1994, 2000 and 2006, the school as one of the most outstanding architectural school in China, passed the international education assessment in A- grade. It has leading role in such research field: conservation of cultural heritage, sustainable development in ecologically fragile regions and sustainable development in undeveloped regions. And also have one of the key state laboratories, two of A-class design and planning institutes, and one of national engineering research centres, which are the most important architecture research centre in north-west China.
